About Ty Macpherson
Currently I am working at Line Precision Contracting as an operator. I have 3 months experience digging holes, pulling poles and setting poles on a single phase line. I also gained experience setting guys, tying in dead single phase line, squeezing jumpers, and other various dead single phase work out of a bucket truck. I spent 5 months as a groundman stocking, organizing and keeping trucks clean, preparing materials and tools for the work to be done, hauling material on trailers, opening and closing cutouts with an extendo stick, digging holes by hand, tamping holes, plumbing poles and other various groundman work. Before this I graduated from Lineman Institute of the Northeast where I learned how to climb a pole, operate a digger and bucket truck, wire transformers in various formations, and I also obtained my class B cdl, first aid and CPR certification, and pole top and bucket rescue.

Utilities Locator
As a Utility Locator for USIC I navigated the Central New York region in a company vehicle during all types of weather, including large snow storms and thunderstorms. I used a locating device to locate underground utilities such as natural gas lines, buried electric, buried cable, and buried fiber lines. I communicated with other locators in the company when I needed assistance, and also communicated with contractors when something in their dig ticket caused confusion or I needed assistance completing the markout. In this role I learned how to better communicate with contractors and customers, navigate poorly maintained roads during storms in a company vehicle, and how to self-regulate my ticket schedule, as this role was very self-sufficient.
Landscaper / Equipment Operator
At Wallace Landscaping I started off using a pickup truck set up with a plow, and salter, as well as a small wheeled machine to clear parking lots and sidewalks of snow in the winter. We plowed both large commercial lots and residential driveways. In the winter we would work early and long hours in the cold to keep lots clear for the customer. As I gained more experience I also used a front end loader with a box blade attachment and a tracked skid steer with a snow plow attachment to remove snow from the lots. During the spring, summer, and fall months I did more of the hardscape side of the work rather than just mowing, and weed trimming. I ran skid steers with various attachments, and mini excavators to clear land so a new lawn could be installed. I moved materials from the worksite and new topsoil to the worksite using a small dump truck. I installed new mulch beds, did fall and spring cleanups, and trimmed trees. I also did basic maintenance and small fixes on all the equipment and trucks used, such as basic services, brake replacement, hydraulic hose replacement, replacing broken bolts and studs, and solving wiring issues. Working at Wallace Landscaping furthered my communication skills, taught me how to run different equipment, how to operate company trucks and equipment safely, construction skills and many other skills.
Farm Worker
I began working at Fesko Farms doing manual labor such as picking up trash, rock picking, picking up the shop, and pressure washing, and also began mowing the extensive amount of lawn between all the different buildings. As I got older and gained experience I started to run different types of equipment to complete day to day tasks on the farm: rock picking in a skid steer, pushing up cow feed, moving material in a front end loader, plowing, discing, and rolling fields in a large tractor, brush hogging using a batwing mower, merging and mowing hay fields, stacking hay bales by hand, with a bucket tractor, and a skid steer with a bale fork, and spreading liquid and solid manure on farm fields using a tractor and spreader or a manure truck. This job showed me the value of hard work from a young age, and gave me the opportunity to gain experiences most younger kids don't have. I worked as a team to complete day to day tasks on the farm, all the while trying to get the job done before inclement weather rolled in.
