Before pursuing higher education, I spent two years speaking Spanish as a service volunteer and leader in Buenos Aires, Argentina, for a non-profit organization. During those two years, I truly learned both the grit and reward of setting and achieving goals. Each morning when I woke up, I would write down my daily goals and a plan to achieve them. I would also lead a weekly planning meeting with my service companion and lead 10-15 volunteers each month during monthly planning meetings. Our weeks consisted of 70+ volunteer hours serving in the local communities and teaching self-help and life-improving principles to those who wanted to hear our message. Each night before retiring, I would check in with my 10-15 assigned volunteers, and they would report to me their achievements for the day. Accountability helped us record and analyze our progress. My service in Argentina instilled in me the foundational principles of hard work and commitment to a cause.Upon returning from Argentina, I worked at various jobs, including landscape architecture, pest control technician, warehouse team member, youth mentor, youth coach, and insurance auditing. Each position has taught me something a little different about myself and the impact I want to have on the world and the community where I live. Some of the most important things that I have learned are the importance of maintaining good customer relationships, representing a company with dignity, and keeping accurate records. Success is in the details.As a student at Utah State University, I received the Resident Aggie Merit Scholarship and have a 3.79 GPA. I have also been on the Dean's list for high academic achievement every semester of my enrollment. I treat my schooling with great importance. I have also held part-time jobs while being in school. I have maintained this high level of academia and dedication by being self-disciplined and using my time efficiently.I believe that the purpose of higher education is to go out into the world and serve others. Stephen R. Covey says, "If you wait until you're rich enough to do some good in the world, then you're probably never going to do it." I believe in that principle and have implemented it in my life. While the purpose of my education is to impact the world positively, I currently live with a focus on those around me and giving back to my community, just as Mr. Covey teaches.
