I really enjoy teaching others to succeed. That feeling of watching them grow, gain confidence, and grasp subjects which they didn't think they could, is priceless. With fifteen years experience teaching martial arts, I feel I am able to convey my message in an effective manner. I have also been involved in the water industry for over 16 years, working in a wide variety of positions for San Jose Water. This has allowed me to learn a very well rounded base of knowledge and earn a Distribution Grade 5 and a Treatment Grade 4. For the past three years, I've been combining my skills by producing a regular podcast (The Water Sifu) which trains others in water treatment and distribution, as well as teaching classes on the same subjects... and I've had a blast! Distribution System OperatorSan Jose Water Company Oct 2005 - Apr 2012Operate and maintain distribution facilities, which store, supply, chlorinate and transmit water in the system. Routinely inspect stations, which includes checking chlorine residuals, dosing tanks and basins, overseeing pump operations, and reading charts and meters. Use a SCADA based program to manage the distribution system, ensure that all levels are within a good operating range, and all equipment is working properly. Watch supply water closely and turn surface water intakes in and out based on flow, turbidity, or other issues which may arise. Assist treatment plant operators in staffing plants as needed. -
Service InspectorSan Jose Water Company Oct 2001 - Oct 2005Responded to emergency calls, determined if problem was San Jose Water's responsibility, and made judgement calls as to priority of repair. As first responder, determined if any leaks were a threat to anyone's safety or property, and took corrective actions. Personally repaired leaks if possible. Responded to consumers with concerns regarding water quality, pressure issues, billing or meter accuracy, leaks to their personal lines, or any other general issues related to their service. Activated and deactivated services in response to consumer requests, or as a result of payment issues. Worked odd shifts, and was solely responsible for watching over the entire distribution system, for over 50% of my work week.
