In my second role in Whirlpool's Leadership Development Program, I supported our commercial laundry operation in Fall River, MA as a Senior Materials Analyst. I was primarily responsible for the creation and implementation of the plant's first material delivery system to a continuously moving assembly line.I led the development of the plant's first PFEP and material delivery strategy for the Maytag Multi-Load washer. My team and I installed supermarkets and laid the foundation for a kanban inventory control process for over 750 unique parts. The scale and complexity of this logistically challenging role taught me the value of detailed planning and collaborative execution. The transformation from job shop to continuous process manufacturing was a unique opportunity for which I'm thankful to have experienced and contributed.

Findlay, Ohio

I began Whirlpool's Leadership Development Program in Findlay, OH during the midst of a $40MM plant expansion project. My responsibility as a Value Stream Engineer was focused on leading the strategy and execution of a new sub-assembly process.Over 6 months, my team and I coordinated 17 equipment relocations, designed and procured over 60 new material racks, and created 13 new assembly jobs. In all, the project impacted over 50 operators across all 3 shifts and increased production output by 230%.My time in Findlay gave me immense project management experience that has given me a framework for organizing and executing projects in the future. Few environments pose a communication challenge quite like manufacturing. Lessons learned in building relationships and earning trust have been the most valuable to me in this rotation.

Marion, Ohio

As a Project Engineer at Whirlpool's manufacturing plant in Marion, Ohio, my responsibilities involved leading cost and quality improvement projects across many different platforms. I coordinated and organized efforts for product testing and implementation across many different departments within the plant. All together, the projects I worked to advance were estimated at over $225,000 in cost, quality, and conversion savings. My time with Whirlpool also exposed me to Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodology. I was mentored by a Black Belt Certified engineer who gave me an introduction into the critical thinking skills and tools available for identifying non-value-added elements and processes. The Manufacturing Leadership Development Program gave me a unique experience as an intern to hone my leadership and project management skills. In addition to the value I added to Whirlpool by completing cost and quality projects, I gained valuable insight into what it takes to solve increasingly difficult challenges in a large manufacturing environment.

Holland, Michigan

At JCI, I interned with the Product Innovation group. The experience exposed me to both sides of product innovation - design and engineering. I worked alongside both groups and was given hands-on experience playing a small role in helping to design a sales prototype used to showcase JCI's advanced manufacturing capabilities.I also did significant work supporting the Advanced Materials and Process Engineering lab. This was my first experience in a lab setting working with FTIR, rheology, and electron microscopes to perform polymer characterizations. I assisted in component failure analysis and authored internal reports.
