Hello, my name is Tyler Bleau. I am a Finance Major at Illinois State University. My interest in business started in May of 2020 when I founded my lawn care and landscaping business. This hands-on experience gave me insight into all of the elements needed to run a successful business. My desire to gain experience continued after joining Alpha Kappa Psi - Xi Psi Chapter, a professional business fraternity on campus. AKPsi has provided countless opportunities for me to develop my professional skills, as well as build a strong network of talented individuals. At the moment, I am looking for a finance internship for this upcoming summer. After my most recent marketing internship, my hope is to gain experience in the world of finance, while further building my professional skills. Outside of my academics, I enjoy spending time outside. As a former cross country runner, I like to go for a run or walk when I need to clear my head. I am also a tutor for Applied Calculus at my school’s academic center. Tutoring a subject outside of my major, while sometimes mentally exhausting, is a nice change of pace.

When doing so, I had to design an in-depth business plan that would serve as the foundation for the business. Once established, I had to train and manage 2 employees who had very few skills to begin with. I also learned how to allocate limited resources to run as efficiently as possible. To organize my financials, I created and consistently used a ledger, as well as monthly financial statements. On top of managing the business, I also participated in almost all landscaping projects to ensure quality service. In addition to the previously listed skills, this experience put my work ethic and perseverance to the test, which in turn increased my self-confidence and motivation.

As VP of Finance, I oversaw all financial transactions, records, and capital for the business. I also led a committee of 3 peers to create an organized and reliable accounting system. Aside from my financial responsibilities, I also contributed to the production of the keychains, as well as the actual sale of the keychains through tabling on campus. This experience developed my entrepreneurship, communication, and leadership skills. After 6 weeks of selling, we were able to make $1,300 in profit, which was then donated to the Suicide Awareness Voices of Education Foundation (SAVE).
