I am an experienced federal executive with specialized skills in fiscal and financial policy. Over a career at the U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB) spanning four presidential administrations, I have thrived in an environment where shifting political agendas and market trends continuously require new subject matter expertise on issues spanning the entirety of the Federal Government. When confronted with a novel policy issue, the most rewarding and challenging aspect of the work often lies in determining how the government can respond. In my current role as the Treasury Branch Chief, I supervise a staff of non-political professionals who oversee more than a dozen federal agencies, including the Department of the Treasury, the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the U.S. Postal Service, and the Executive Office of the President. In addition to our traditional work formulating the President’s Budget, my team provides constant real-time program analysis to inform White House policy deliberations and respond to external inquiries on issues ranging from potential market impacts of changes to government-backed terrorism risk insurance to the fiscal implications of Puerto Rican debt restructuring. In this capacity, I routinely interface with every level of federal service from financial analysts to assistant secretaries of cabinet agencies. I have more than a decade of experience covering financial market issues at OMB, where success is dependent on relaying complex analysis on absurdly short timelines through concise written and oral communication to policy makers. My formative years as an analyst coincided with the 2008 financial crisis, the beginnings of which manifested in the government-backed student loan market in 2007. At the time I was a federal credit policy analyst working on a back-stop program to inject additional liquidity into the market through federal intermediaries. In 2008, I moved to the Housing Branch where I spent five years as the program examiner for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Since 2013, I have focused on broader issues surrounding financial regulation and stability, among other responsibilities.
