I have experience in botany, habitat restoration, GIS, and prescribed fire management. My botanical skills stem from invasive species management where I was able to progress to native species identification as well as threatened and endangered species identification. Through specific species identification, I was able to identify key ecosystem types in Southeast Michigan and document them for local conservation organizations. As the lead biological technician for the Detroit River Cooperative Weed Management Area, I was able to create and implement standard protocols for Early Detection and Rapid Response surveys and prioritize the management of invasive species into one linked system that lead to the significant restoration of priority habitats. In close association with Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge biology staff, I was able to practice native habitat restoration by compiling ecosystem-specific seed mixes, establishing the native prairie restorations, and managing wetlands to emulate natural cycles. I was also responsible for managing the GIS database for the DR-WLE CWMA and the DRIWR totaling 4 GB and 34 GB respectively. Maintaining the DR-WLE CWMA database included creating geodatabases, layers, fields, domains, and symbologies in ArcGIS Pro to be hosted on ArcGIS Online and implemented with ArcGIS Collector in the field with weekly quality-checking of collected data. In consultation with the DRIWR biologist, I designed, implemented, and maintained a file structure and standard operating procedure for the DRIWR GIS files dated back to the establishment of the refuge in 2001.Through multiple prescribed burns in Michigan, I was able to implement biomass removal for invasive species, remove woody vegetation growth from prairies, and safely implement this tool to maintain the native ecosystem diversity. In August 2021 I was able to go on a two-week initial attack wildfire incident in northern Minnesota.
