I provide counsel on a variety of legal issues for the mining operations of a publicly traded company. I serve as mine safety and health counsel and manage all aspects of the company's federal regulatory litigation arising out of mine safety and health matters, including initial evaluation, discovery, settlement negotiations, hearings, appeals, and reporting of cases in accordance with Securities and Exchange Commission requirements. I remain abreast of changes in workplace safety law, either in the form of new regulations or judicial decisions, and frequently conduct trainings for the mining operations to keep them informed on best practices for regulatory compliance and litigation avoidance. I also serve on legal and health and safety committees for state and national trade organizations, and I am an active participant in formulating the mine industry's response to proposed legislation or regulations.I work closely with outside counsel and our mining operations in the defense of various types of litigation against the company, including personal injury, wrongful death, class action, wage and hour, and other employment-related matters. I also frequently counsel our mining operations on employment law issues that may arise.Additionally, I work with engineers and subject matter experts on strategies for compliance with environmental law regulations at the state and federal level, and I assist our mining operations and executive staff with various other legal issues, as they arise.

I concentrated my practice on federal administrative litigation arising from mine safety and health matters. I represented the company's mining operations in administrative hearings before the Federal Mine Safety and Health Review Commission in disputes arising out of the validity, gravity, negligence or assigned civil penalty of citations issued by the Mine Safety and Health Administration. Additionally, I provided counsel regarding legal issues arising from mine safety and health matters, special investigations, and best practices for compliance with federal and state regulations.

I focused my practice on civil defense litigation arising out of defense agreements in insurance contracts. My practice dealt with a wide variety of litigation matters including personal injury defense, wrongful death, motor vehicle litigation, commercial litigation, contractual disputes, and subrogation matters.
