This job was more than just a simple cook position. It entailed dealing with residents and their specific needs, most of which suffered mental deterioration. Skills that where honed included patience, communication, organization and creativity. My job entailed prepping, cooking, serving the food, dealing with complaints, adhering to a structured dietary plan, and providing proper care to the residents needs. Due to the nature of this position sanitation, labeling, and dating were that of the upmost priority. Keeping a log of my meals, temperatures and ensure the equipment was properly maintained. Working for this company and doing my job at a high level has awarded me with a Spotlight Award. This is for people that go above and beyond their duties.

Culinary Assistant role was to ensure that back end operations such as; line resources, cooking materials, and dining reserve were well stocked and prepared for use. Understanding dishes and the complexity behind each one was also imperative. Specializing each dish to the needs of the consumer in a fast paced environment was an ability that was reinforced. Maintaining a clean environment was also a prime responsibility for a Culinary Assistant whether it was the cutting boards, dishes, glasses, utensils, cooking materials, or just the general environment. Sanitation was a top priority. Maintaining and understanding the manifest was also another important role to ensure that the restaurant and the main chefs had the resources available to complete the standard and special dishes. With the comprehensive manifest, managing and organization was of the utmost importance. Any other requests that the owner or chef asked were also part of my responsibilities into this portion of the role. Waiter/Waitress responsibilities include greeting and serving customers, providing detailed information on menus, multi-tasking various front-of-the-house duties and collecting the bill. If you are able to perform well in fast-paced environments, we’d like to meet you. To be a successful Waiter or Waitress, you should be polite with our customers and make sure they enjoy their meals. You should also be a team player and be able to effectively communicate with our Kitchen Staff to make sure orders are accurate and delivered promptly.

Provide assistance in merchandising, floor moves, and display maintenance. Perform store housekeeping functions and assist in setting up sales. Provide assistance in processing merchandise for customers and refilling them in the store. Take part in receiving and checking floor stock. Complete all sales transactions correctly and efficiently and ensure cash and media accountabilities are properly maintained at POS registers. Perform opening and closing procedures following Dollar General set standards; and ensure Company’s policy and procedures regarding time and attendance are adhered to. Perform other duties the management may assign.

This job was allowed me to farther understand the healthcare industry as well as developing some key skills to mold me into a more effective individual. This experience has taught me how to manage disgruntled individuals and develop a strategy to handle those situations. Handling inventory and managing finances for individuals was an important skill required to effectively complete the job. The job also demanded an attention to detail and recalling interactions with the consumers in order to create detailed reports that included information in regards to the environment, what was discussed, the individuals actions, and what I did as an employee that fulfilled my responsibilities. There was also the handling of prescribed medication that had to be maintained and understood in order to facilitate the medical needs of the consumers.

Working as a TA has taught me a wide variety of skills that helped me improve my skills in regards to instructing and presenting. Preparing lesson plans, organizing a class structure, and evaluating students aided my skillset in a manner that will allow me to prosper in the future. During this venture I introduced new strategies and worked with a team to push forward these new ideas into the William Paterson Education System. I created a game and helped design a website to help facilitate these new ideas. The game was developed to help individuals become more familiar with the campus and to outline the supportive academic programs that the university had to offer. The website was developed to deliver an experience that will help the students become motivated and organized based off of their own academic progress. Unfortunately the website did not get past the Beta stage of development. These proposals created ripples in the educational system opening an opportunity to presentation the board with my ideas. My impressions were viewed in positive regard, leading to a trip across seas to Scotland where I presented my ideas at a conference attempting to obtain support. The journey led me to strengthen many traits such as public speaking, presentation planning, efficient use of PowerPoint and Word, organization, instructing, designing and professional resilience.

This opportunity has effectively allowed me to safeguard people’s lives and wellbeing which requires a high level of responsibility. The skills obtained from this position allowed me to be proficient in First Aid, CPR, AED and Waterfront Rescue methods. Lifeguarding forced me to focus on specific skills, such as my awareness, response time and effectively using critical thinking skills under heavy amounts of pressure. Whether it be making saves or prepping the work area, teamwork was one of the most important skills that are utilized daily. While working with the team we were able to determine our weaknesses and strengths which aided in making us as a unit more effective. As an officer the responsibilities of my job increased. Sergeant Positon is considered an assistant manager position. The job entailed scheduling, communicating with upper management about procedures, relaying information to the staff and training new employees. Being placed in situations where I was forced to make on the spot calls that affected the wellbeing of the patrons and my staff happened daily.

The Head Swim Coach position required me to create effective workouts for the team and coordinate swim competitions for this lake community by collaborating with various other coaches by attending meetings and other correspondence within the league. Attention to detail was imperative while compiling the rosters, determining the individual swimmer’s strengths and weaknesses as well as creating relay teams based on times, history and attendance. Accurate record keeping by the use of computerized software and manual data was vital for the success of the league and swimmers. Maintaining an open and proactive relationship with the swimmers and parents made for an enjoyable experience for everyone invested in the team. Some special education experience was also applied for some of our gifted swimmers.Performing as the Head Swim Counselor consisted of creating or approving individualized lesson plans for each class which aided myself and the other counselors in planning and tracking the student’s progress. An additional expectation as Head Swim Counselor was to organize swim activities related to specific Cupsaw Lake summer festivities.
