Tyler Hebert is a research civil engineer in the Airfields and Pavements Branch of the Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) in Vicksburg, MS. A native of Huntington, West Virginia, she attended college at Marshall University and graduated in 2024 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering with minors in English and Mathematics. As of fall 2024, she is obtaining Master’s degree at Mississippi State University.As an undergraduate student, Tyler served as a research assistant for the civil engineering department at Marshall University, conducting research related to subterranean void detection. In this position, she primarily worked on finite element modeling (FEM) software to model and perform complex calculations and mimic real-world problems. Alongside this research, she also assisted her fellow classmates and professors as a tutor and teaching assistant for several math and engineering courses. Tyler was also heavily involved in several organizations on campus, including the Society of Women Engineers (SWE), the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and the College of Engineering and Computer Science Dean’s Student Advisory Board. In these associations, Tyler acted as the president for three consecutive years, secretary, and advisory board chair, respectively. While studying at Marshall, Tyler was awarded the Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship, which is a combined educational and workforce development opportunity for STEM students. This opportunity provides a full scholarship and full-time employment with a sponsoring facility upon degree completion, leading Tyler to her career at ERDC. Additionally, Tyler was a Yeager Scholar at Marshall University, a highly competitive merit-based scholarship for the most prestigious academic and leadership program at Marshall University.
