I joined the U.S. Army Infantry in 2010 absolutely loving every moment of it, the brotherhood, comradery and sense of pride of it all. I deployed to Afghanistan in 2012, 7 months into the deployment on a dismounted patrol I was hit by a command wired IED as a result I lost both of my legs. I remember waking up in the hospital depressed, confused and mad at the world. A few weeks into my recovery not wanting to go forward in life and feeling sorry for myself I was invited on a deep sea fishing trip with other wounded Veterans. This trip with other Veterans was a game changer for me, this trip allowed me to completely forget about my injuries. On this trip I was able to escape my own mind and the struggles in life I was dealing with. It gave me back my self confidence and opened my eyes to the life I still had to live, the things I could still accomplish being a double amputee. I wanted other Veterans to experience what I had experienced and give them the trip the may need as well as deserve. In 2019 my dream became reality and Hookin Veterans was born. For the past four years, Hookin’ Veterans, a 501 (c) (3), has made a difference in the lives of our nation’s wounded veterans. Our vets enjoy their time on the water on luxurious sport fishing boats with one another, making memories that last a lifetime. At Hookin' Veterans we provide, an all-expense paid weekend fishing trip that is designed to be fun, relaxing and in some ways soothing to the soul of veterans and by extension their families.
