Construction Materials Technician
CurrentCurrently the Laboratory Supervisor for WSP’s St. John’s materials laboratory. Providing a range of construction support services across the province.Recently contracted as the quality manager for the Capital Ready Mix - Lafarge partnership on the West White Rose Extension Project. Ensuring the implementation and execution of the quality management plan. Prior to the above role I filled the position of Laboratory Supervisor servicing our clients 1,100 kilometer, 350-kilovolt transmission line project. Providing construction support services to ensure concreting and grouting activities meet project specifications. Remote laboratory and harsh conditions offered many logistical and safety challenges. Daily job activities included coordination of testing services, reviewing and preparing test results for the project engineer and promoting the health and safety of coworkers.Prior to the above I was the Concrete Laboratory Shift Responsible Technologist for the Hebron Gravity Based Structure in Bull Arm, Newfoundland by providing a full suite of laboratory and field testing for the client. Typical duties involved coordination of staff, maintaining a CCIL certified concrete laboratory and supplementing the clients own QC department with pre-pour inspections as required.Other representative projects include Inco's Long Harbor Processing Plant (LHPP) providing quality control for Capital Ready Mix Ltd. Typical job duties involved monitoring mix designs to ensure products satisfied project requirements, sampling and testing both fresh and hardened concrete.Various projects have involved in situ concrete investigation, concrete mix design, geotechnical inspections, inspection and oversight for water and sewer projects, soil proof tests, subsurface investigations, testing of reinforcing steel as well as verification of reinforcing steel placement.
