• Participated in a two-week externship during fourth year of veterinary school. Gained experience performing physical exams, skin scrapings (for both mites and secondary bacterial/yeast infections), tape cytology, punch biopsies, and otoscopic exams.• Developed ability to devise treatment plans for common dermatologic conditions including atopy, ectoparasite infestation, pemphigus foliaceous, discoid lupus, and vitiligo.

• Assumed multiple roles at an AAHA accredited seven doctor small animal general practice; began working as a veterinary assistant prior to start of veterinary school and continued working during summer and winter breaks.• Participated in a two-week externship during fourth year of veterinary school. Assisted in multiple rabbit/canine OHE’s, femoral amputation on a guinea pig, assessed bloodwork and radiographs, performed AFASTs on emergency cases, and shadowed veterinarians during exams.• As an assistant, communicated extensively with clients during exams, obtaining histories and answering any questions prior to the meeting with the veterinarian; was also responsible for follow-up communication with the client and assisting the front desk when understaffed. Aided veterinarians in documenting and writing patient records. Assisted veterinary technicians during blood withdrawals, cystocenteses/urinary catheterization, and other procedures.

• Assumed multiple roles at a busy three doctor small animal general practice; began working as a kennel technician prior to start of veterinary school and continued working during breaks as needed. Upon entrance into veterinary school, began shadowing during summer, winter, and spring breaks; would also occasionally fill in as a veterinary technician when additional staff was required.• Participated in a two-week externship during fourth year of veterinary school. Gained invaluable experience performing physical exams, communicating extensively with clients face to face and via telephone, reviewing laboratory data and radiographs, extracting teeth (carnassial, molars, incisors), and performing common surgeries (spay/neuter, aural hematoma repair, mass removals, assisting in foreign body removal/intestinal resection and anastomosis, etc.) under the supervision of the veterinarians.• As a kennel technician, assisted the front desk staff in answering phone calls, scheduling exams, and checking out clients after exams; monitored post-operative patients, cleaned kennels, walked patients outside, and restrained animals for blood draws, nail trims, radiographs, etc.
