I began my role at Wegmans as a cashier when I was just 16 years old. After about 6 months in this position, I transitioned over to helping hands, which is their team that pushes carts inside and helps customers in and out of the store, as well ass assisting with drive-up and Instacart orders. After about 6 months in this position, I transitioned over to helping hands, which is their team that pushes carts inside and helps customers in and out of the store, as well ass assisting with drive-up and Instacart orders. At this time, I was cross trained in maintenance and was tasked with helping to train new employees into both of these departments. Right before covid, I was asked to enhance my experience throughout the store and leave the front end going to the frozen department. After having a better understanding of the store and its operations, I applied for the management intern program and started in the summer of 2021. During my three years in this program, I learned extensive amounts of information about the grocery industry and the operations and decisions that are involved. Working as a cashier manager, meat management intern, and produce management intern, I was able to further my knowledge of both perishable and non-perishable departments. I learned all of the key metrics that directly effect profitability such as shrink, inventory counting, ordering, simplification, and more. More importantly, I learned the steps necessary to lead a successful team such as delegating tasks, establishing systems and goals, promoting collaboration, and more. Show less
