Sr. Electrical Test Engineer, Battery Manufacturing
Manufacturing Test Engineer, Electrical
I've spent over 5 years in the T&V/R&D space and thought it was time to broaden my horizons into manufacturing. I'm so thankful for the top notch team I get to work with and learn from. With my background in HV/LV electrical testing, the ME test team is a great fit. I was able to jump in head first into the build and commissioning of our state of the art ADAS test stations in EOL. Using some of my project management skills, I was able to help push the completion of (what I'm calling) the Rivian standard low voltage testers which we use for doors and instrument panels. Within 1 years time, I've been able to close out 15 general assembly projects in total. Some of these projects were my direct responsibility, some were not and a few of these projects even dated back to 2022. But through coordinating internal and external help, I was able to get the job done. I've also had the pleasure to participate in several trainings to hone my technical skills to better understand the intricacies of multiple disciplines as I look for an opportunity to step into a leadership role in the future. The adventure continues into now owning the R2 battery module and pack line electrical test stations. Working with international integrators from multiple different countries should provide an excellent learning experience.
Sr. Battery Test Engineer
No one likes bullet points and action words, so how about a story. The day I stepped foot on to Rivian property, I realized the scale of the journey I had just embarked. The lab (let alone the plant) had a plywood front door and was still under heavy construction. With the efforts of myself and 3 other teammates, we took the lab from a bare building to the crown jewel of Rivian testing. From physically wiring battery cyclers and having one pack on test, to 20-30 packs on test in a facility with 7.7MW worth of capability. We've since scaled that even more with an $80M addition to the lab that included another ~1.2MW of power. I've worked closely with a world class integrator to develop OEE tools, metrics for lab monitoring and back-end data processing all while juggling the testing of several battery programs and generations. I've done it all. That's the magic of a start-up.
Battery Systems Validation Engineering
The nature of my role is ever changing. Myself and one other team member have stood up battery pack level testing from nothing here in Columbus Indiana. We've gone from 250kW of testing capability to nearly 1MW of power. We've designed and built all of our own automation platforms. We also design and code all of our own testing environments for battery pack testing across organizations. We work with on and off highway teams to validate their BMS functions as well as helping diagnose and repair engineering vehicles out in the field. Our team and capabilities are growing by the week and it's super exciting for me to see my hard work paying off while establishing Cummins as a viable battery and battery systems validation testing solution.
Chassis Emission Lab Mechanical Engineering Technician
Here in the midrange CTC chassis emission lab, we are able to accommodate platforms using engines as small as 2.8L all the way up to the 6.7L. Utilizing the latest chassis dyno technology coupled with our own CVS tunnel and Horiba emissions equipment; we are able to run many different emission related tests on internal and external customer vehicles as well as EPA mandated certification tests. Whether it's validating a new ECM calibration on current product or OBD testing our latest and greatest, my team and I can do it all here.
Developtment/Endurance Test Cell Scheduler
The primary focus of my team is to ensure the success of our customers by making testing at CTC as efficient and effective as possible whether they be internal or external to Cummins. Along with the help of my team, I schedule testing and equipment for our 80 development, endurance and specialty (line) test cells here at Cummins Technical Center. This requires understanding and knowledge of all types of tests the facility can handle, from prototype mechanical development to current product support. Other responsibilities include; maintaining strong communication with current and future customers. Maintaining strong professional connections with the occupying engineering staff as well as their supporting test cell technicians. Being involved with facility upgrades and to maximize test cell utilization. I run a tight ship and I take great pride in knowing what I do here translates directly to the customer in keeping cost of ownership low, and ensuring warranty issues are resolved quickly and cost effectively.
