My purpose was assisting in a group attempt to discover the interactions of the follicle stimulating hormone receptor (FSHR); specifically its cavaeolin interaction motif (CIM) with the scaffolding protein caveolin. My job was to mutate and clone FSHR DNA at the interaction motif to detrimentally effect the function of FSHR once the mutant DNA was transfected to a healthy cell. This would allow us to surmise that caveolin (and the CIM) was essential for FSHR function, as well as shed light on future fertility drug development.
