Archivist
Museum Assistant
As a museum assistant at Rocktown History I worked with the Executive Director and Administrator/Researcher to assist them with the tasks assigned to me which help fulfill the mission of the museum. These tasks included regularly checking email for updates from my supervisor, weekly updating the facebook page for the Historic Dayton Welcome Center, helping to develop ideas for upcoming programs and events, welcoming patrons into the welcome center and museum, and completing book and gift sales. Other tasks I worked on included exhibit research design, installation and repair, assisting patrons with genealogy research, assisting the Administrator/Researcher with genealogy requests, and giving tours of the museum for small and large groups. While working here I created a permanent exhibit about music traditions in the Shenandoah Valley called Melodious Marketing with an accompanying website. As a museum assistant I spent most of my time researching and writing about historic events, objects, places or people which were then included in the historical society newsletter or for social media posts or videos. In order to do this I became familiar with the objects and documents in the museum collection, archives, and the genealogy research library. I obtained general knowledge of prominent individuals, families and place names in the archives which aided in my research and when I helped patrons in the research library. I also proofread and edited documents which the Executive Director and Executive Assistant wrote. I assisted with events both online and in person on the third Thursday of each month as well as worked on Saturdays and some holidays. I gained a working knowledge of audiovisual technology which aided in recording the monthly speeches and posting them to the Rocktown History Facebook page.

Student Researcher And Student Supervisor
While attending BYU I worked at the Center For Family History and Genealogy on the Nauvoo Community Project. As part of that project I researched birth, marriage, death and burial information for individuals and families that lived in Nauvoo, Illinois from 1839-1846. While I worked there I had the opportunity to visit the special collections at BYU to find documents to help with the research required for the job. I also had the opportunity to supervise other students’ work on the project as a student project manager.
