I never thought I’d end up researching as a career. For many years I was set on a path towards law school, envisioning myself as a criminal lawyer. I diligently prepared for the LSAT, ready to take that next step, until I hit pause and took a closer look at my future. And that’s when it happened, when I was formally introduced to researching as a career many years ago during my undergraduate studies. I discovered that researching something you loved wasn’t reserved for PhD candidates or professors, but it was an immense landscape just waiting to be explored! It was only through active exploration, reflection, and mentorship that I discovered this vast area where I could apply my unique skillset and experiences. As a researcher, I thrive on applying my passion for storytelling to my work. Whether it's visualizing a narrative through qualitative coding or creating data visualizations in Excel from responses to a quantitative survey, I'm continually amazed at what you can learn. My competencies include qualitative and quantitative research methods. So far, I have interviewing, focus groups, surveys, literature reviews, qualitative coding, environmental scans, data analysis (e.g., Excel, SPSS, NVivo), and report writing under my belt as a researcher. I enjoy knowledge translation, such as bringing stories to life through presentations and graphics for a non-technical audience utilizing my creative side. I also really enjoy coordinating projects and managing risk through both traditional and Agile project management frameworks. I’ve been exploring and telling stories in a variety of sectors, including education, health, and criminal justice settings. I am always acquiring more knowledge and am currently learning new technologies and software, such as R and PowerBI, to better tell these untold stories.
