As a contractor for the US National Forest Service, I traveled to Forest Service Regional HQs across the country to perform activities that were outside of the scope of these regional offices. This included all pre-harvest prepping methods for large restoration efforts through rough and wild terrain, as well as data collection that is crucial to regional silviculturalists for future forest management projects. The objective is always to provide the regional office with research-grade information/preparation on the forest stands that are of interest.

Used R programming language to perform statistical analysis of ACC's water quality and stream habitat database. Utilized GIS information regarding the county's watersheds to update existing watershed management plans for the city of Athens.

I performed extensive field work to obtain environmental data (tree DBH, soil geochemistry, clip plots, soil cores, etc.) from the longleaf pine savannahs of Georgia and Florida. Once back in the lab I worked to extract and classify roots from sediment samples based on size and plant type, as well as run nitrogen fixation assays on lichen, moss, and pine needle samples. All of this work was a concerted effort to assist current PhD candidate, Julie Tierney, on her ground breaking work studying nitrogen fixation of long-leaf pine ecosystems.

During my amazing time with this organization I worked to restore watershed health in the immensely urbanized and polluted Tanyard Creek and Lily Branch watershed. This was done by analyzing time series water chemistry and stream flow data to target clean-up projects and remediation projects. For future preservation I also wrote Watershed Summary Reports that detailed the physical, biological, and chemical status of our campus waterways with an emphasis on water quality trends. Lastly, as an educational tool as well as a fun project, I created maps meant to supply researchers and students with an open access method to analyze and create personal experiments of watershed health.
