In a very similar role to operating buses for the city of Steamboat Springs, I moved to a company providing mountain shuttle services to the Denver International Airport, Yampa Valley Regional Airport, and local destinations within the city of Steamboat Springs. I was given the opportunity to dispatch for the business when my driving duties were not a necessity. The differences between dispatching for a scheduled bus route, and an irregular taxi request line were profound. Many times I had to use on-the-fly thinking, quick and expressive communications, and my best judgement, in order to have adequate response times to our customers. The balancing act was very difficult, but I found it rewarding at the end of my shift after we had delivered all of our happy customers to their destinations.

Living in Steamboat Springs, I switched careers in order to become a city employee. Within my first few weeks in this position I obtained a Class B CDL license in order to drive city transit buses. Upon passing the written and practical tests quickly, management gave me the opportunity to step into a lead driving position, and to also assist with dispatching responsibilities. I was given many tasks outside of driving which include taking passenger surveys, compiling rider data and statistics, dispatching drivers and equipment, and driving the regional bus route, which entailed operating the much larger buses, similar to a coach Greyhound vehicle.

Taking a risk, I decided to relocate to Steamboat Springs, Colorado for adventure and to grow as a person. I worked in the food and beverage warehouse at the ski resort and my tasks involved assisting the controller and warehouse manager by checking invoices, receiving deliveries, organizing shipments, and delivering food products to their final destination via gondola work cars and snow cats. I learned a lot about mountain resort operations, and would deem myself able to take a similar position with more responsibilities, but I developed and grew as an individual by pioneering my way through an unknown.

I began my journey with this family friendly company in October 2016 as an inside sales representative trainee. As I was hired, I became a test subject for the new training program being established to effectively advance people in my position to the outside sales, b2b, position. I helped shape and develop this new program while learning skills in sales, training, marketing, legal, business development, and account management. I assisted in creating over a million dollars in revenue for the company in a year.

As an investment, I purchased a Ford Econoline 350 Super Duty cargo van and have been moving college students from my local area to their new homes. I saw demand for moving truck rentals increase during the peak new lease months (July-August) and figured there was a way to provide a cheaper service that helps students on a budget. I am the only worker, but I assist in loading, transportation, and unloading of my customers things and charge a varying rate that is dependent on distance and number of trips made. So far I have made a return on my investment and have netted a profit.
