I am an award-winning architect with SmithGroup based in San Francisco where the focus of my 20+ years of practice has been on developing projects that are healthy and positive contributions to society. I concentrate on healthcare, research, wellness, and civic projects. As Principal of the SmithGroup San Francisco MOB and Specialty Outpatient Portfolio, my teams have a special emphasis on outpatient health & wellness, ambulatory care, and cancer institutes. I am a broad practitioner with experience in project management, planning, design, and technical detailing and able to do what it takes to get a project completed successfully. I am a national leader in sustainable healthcare architecture and under my direction, many projects have achieved high-ranking LEED certifications including the first two LEED Certified Hospitals in California. I speak and teach widely on sustainable healthcare principles including courses at Harvard GSD. My passion is in eliminating toxins from built environments and creating buildings which are active healing agents. As a member of the National AIA Materials Knowledge Working Group and the Health Product Declaration Collaborative User Advisory Panel, I am constantly pushing the industry to be more transparent and be positively enriching to human health, the environment, climate and social equity.

I was a Senior Associate /Senior Architect at ANSHEN+ALLEN, a part of Stantec Architecture where the focus of my practice was on sustainable healthcare and laboratory architecture. My roles in healthcare and laboratory design included planning, architectural design, and technical coordination for a wide range of large-scale research and healthcare projects. I was a Project Architect and Sustainability Leader for the University of California San Francisco Medical Center at Mission Bay project.

I am an Instructor with the Bay Area Sustainable Building Advisors Program. I teach a module on Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) & Design for Health and Wellbeing. This includes sections on Visual Interest, Contact with Nature / Biophilia, Daylight, Fresh Air, Lighting, Thermal Comfort, and Toxins

I was an Associate Principal and Committee Chair for Sustainability at Anshen + Allen Architects focusing on sustainable healthcare and laboratory architecture. I oversaw all Sustainable projects for Anshen+Allen, including 14 LEED projects. From 2007 to 2010 I was the junior member of the Executive Committee / Finance Committee for Anshen+Allen, Inc. facilitating Board of Directors corporate policy direction and bringing a young voice to corporate and finance policy decisions company wide. Via this appointment, I was exposed to corporate annual budgeting processes, HR policy processes, and quarterly financial updates.

I was an Assistant Instructor for a class in mixed media, teaching segments on charcoal, pastels, and other "loose media". I also assisted in administrative functions for the Portland Urban Architecture Studio.
