Developed embedded software for data collection and wireless communications devices used in commercial aircraft. Used both C and C++ to develop custom Linux-based firmware for two router-like devices that provide WiFi and cellular data connectivity to an aircraft's internal networks. Implemented proprietary communication, flow-control, and encryption protocols for flight data transfer to Teledyne's ground-based analysis systems, and for receiving and distributing uploads of new firmware to itself and other on-aircraft systems. Customized cellular radio device drivers to provide bonded connections for increased transfer speed. Employed custom hardware interfaces to create a bridge to aircraft-specific protocols such as ACARS and ARINC-429. Worked with Boeing and the FAA to establish requirements and qualification test procedures.

Software was written in Java and Python, and heavily employed Google Web Toolkit (GWT). The development process emphasized software engineering best practices in design document authoring, bug tracking, unit testing, etc.

Researched, and wrote software to facilitate further research on, low-power wireless sensor networks. Conducted experiments on the power efficiency of experimental MAC protocols and developed a Wireshark plugin using C and GTL to visualize and analyze the results of these experiments. Used the domain-specific NesC language to build a tool for distributing software updates to a mesh network of embedded devices. Wrote a C++ library for delay-tolerant remote control and debugging of devices reachable only by an intermittently available satellite link.
