Actuarial Intern
My final work-term was spent at The Co-operators Group Limited in their Corporate Actuarial department. I was able to work alongside a team which managed a variety of control metrics within the Actuarial department, such as Average Reserves, Large Losses, IBNR monitoring, etc.. I was the project lead of a new program which allowed our team to estimate the total IBNR of a natural catastrophe, in under an hour of a natural event. The program was able to read KML files of natural catastrophes, create a coordinate grid with latitude and longitude coordinates and then discover check the internal database to see which policies were within that coordinate grid. By enabling the R-Project to then be fully integrated with Excel (VBA), we were then able to sort by product lines, claim size, and total potential IBNR.Projects Completed:- Automated quarterly report in Excel (VBA), reduced project time from a day to under an hour- Large Loss Reporting- Runoff Reporting- IBNR Monitoring Report- Loss Ratio Reporting- Analyse and present key metrics for the group of companies- Create instruction sheets for past processes and coding projectsLanguages Used: SQL, Microsoft SQL, SaaS, R, VBA, LaTeXMy time working with this team has allowed me to learn new analytical skills, as well as enhance my programming skills. By analyzing quarterly reports to then present at meetings, I was able to understand how each metric affects the overall outcome. By having strict deadlines, I was required to remain organized and take initiative when necessary. I thoroughly enjoyed this term, as it allowed me to gain a variety of new skills and experiences.

Processing Associate
For my first co-op work term, I had the pleasure of working at O’Farrell Financial Services. O’Farrell Financial Services is a local financial firm with four offices dispersed throughout farming communities south of Ottawa. During my duration at O’Farrell Financial I performed a variety of tasks, ranging from Processing, Marketing to working along side the Large Case Team. While in Processing, I was tasked with the creation and closing of files. I helped develop a new process for closing files as the regular process was outdated, I then traveled to other offices to ensure the integrity of the closed files before organizing. I was also able to perform transactions for companies (switches, redemptions, deposits), these processes had their own structure to follow and required lots of company contact to ensure they were completed correctly. While in Processing I could develop my skills in attention to detail as well as time management, as all transactions had to be completed in a timely manner for the clients. I was also able to work with the Marketing Coordinator to plan the 20th Year Anniversary party for O’Farrell Financial Services. This required lots of client lists and organizing who should be invited, and who has been invited. This was vital as a missed invitation could lead to losing certain clients. I also had to coordinate with other companies to ensure we had all the necessary supplies by the correct dates. Finally, I was able to work with the Large Case Team who handles all the large/most profitable clients at O’Farrell Financial. These clients needed everything from Life Insurance to Farming Succession Plans. While working for the Large Case Team I was also able to help create a Mortgage Tracking Sheet, as they were a new product O’Farrell Financial was creating. I learned how to work with important clients and help create the beginnings of financial plans for them.
