The Whale Interpretive Centre (WIC) is run by the registered charitable society, the Johnstone Strait Killer Whale Interpretive Centre Society (JSKWICS). Located in Telegraph Cove, BC, the WIC is the largest public collection of marine mammal skeletons in western Canada.As an Interpreter at the Whale Interpretive Centre (WIC), I deliver interpretive talks to the public about the biology, ecology and conservation issues surrounding marine mammals, particularly those found around Northern Vancouver Island. My talks also feature discussions on comparative anatomy and evolution of cetaceans and pinnipeds.In addition to speaking with the public, I also help maintain the WIC's large collection of marine mammal skeletons, both on display and in storage. During the 2022 season, I updated the WIC's specimen database and I standardized the labelling and storage of the many specimens in the WIC's collection.

During my 6-week internship with AIMM, I participated in boat-based and land-based marine megafauna surveys, where I collected visual, environmental, and spatial data. I identified different species of cetaceans, sharks, sea turtles and sea birds, and interpreted the behaviour and social structure of different groups of cetaceans. I collected and processed photographs for photo-identification purposes.In addition to fieldwork, I maintained field equipment and performed data entry tasks, such as entering data recorded in encounter logs, weather logs, and GPS tracks into databases in Excel.
