Sr Computer Services Tech
CurrentProvide IT Computer Services Department with technical support in the management and operation of the computing environment through the effective use of standard monitoring tools, processes and procedures needed to achieve highly available computer services in Aetnas Mainframe, Midrange, Distributed/Server, Network and Intranet/Internet WEB environments. The NOC (Network Operations Center) is a 24x7x365 department responsible for monitoring Aetna’s vast voice and data network infrastructure around the globe.Monitor each field office within Aetna’s data network is connected by high speed data circuits maintained by Verizon and AT&T. They are designed to minimize downtime in that if one carrier fails, the other will handle the load. There are two Cisco routers installed per site; one rides the AT&T data circuits, the other Verizon. There are also different carriers overseas such as TATA Communications that are also responsible for our data service. Monitors all alerts related to either a data circuit issue, or a possible hardware issue. This could also include UPS (uninterruptable power supply) units and any devices connected to it such as routers, switches and OA servers. NOC technicians have the ability to log into routers and switches to check on downed or degraded circuits or hardware problems and work with carriers or Aetna engineers to facilitate the recovery of circuits or hardware problems (checking for errors, looping up ports, clearing counters, etc.). Troubles are coordinated with groups such as Network Engineering, Transmission Engineering and Server and Storage Support Engineering to minimize downtime. We also rely on a number of vendors who are responsible for troubleshooting certain areas within that particular network segment that is affected and we will coordinate a dispatch if needed.
