Developed migration tool from client's rentals database to new data model, with incremental migration, allowing early access to test data and eliminating the need for a long down-time at application cutover. Developed data model and procedures for vendor editing facility for rentals information, essentially small-scale version control in the database (historical change log, live vs not-yet approved edits, approval mechanism, etc).Successfully migrated from Microsoft SQL Server to Sybase, including porting stored procedures and identifying and fixing performance issues due to different query optimizer characteristics / implementation quirks. Developed tools for incremental updates to minimize down-time at cutover.Developed simple content management work-flow system allowing content managers to diff between content in the editing and live databases before pushing changes to production.Developed and enhanced tools for database maintenance used by DB operations team.Enhanced processes for version control of database procedures and developed tools to ease integration with version control system.Ongoing optimization of the system and review of changes for performance impacts.Mentoring of application developers in database design and programming.

Designed, developed, and supported internal software as a member of an IT team for the world's largest web hosting company, a unit of NTT. Served as part of on-call system administration team and liaison between the system's administrators and development. Sample projects:Member of development team for a business-critical proprietary customer support tracking system used to serve more than half a million customers:- Developed email in/out gateways with complex data conversion, branding, and routing capabilities- Maintained systems for feeding customer information into support tracking system from more than 25 separate customer databases - Identified concurrency and deadlock issues and poorly-performing queries. Corrected performance issues through index design, or forced optimizations and Sybase Abstract Query Plan language.- Developed tools for real-time monitoring of request tracking application's performance, including interactions between processes (blocking, deadlocks), ability to view SQL being executed by application in real time.- Member of team to migrate support application from Sybase to Oracle and to develop test suite to validate proper functioning of the application on Oracle.- Created packaging and installation infrastructure and documentation to enable licensing to another company, resulting in almost $3M of revenue.Replaced per-application authentication databases with enterprise-wide replicated LDAP architecture. Designed and implemented web-based UI for management of the database. The service was used by more than a dozen applications worldwide and resulted in a significant reduction of administrative and development costs. - As part of above, identified and fixed numerous bugs in OpenLDAP, greatly increasing reliability.Co-designer of data model for asset tracking application.
