Upon inspecting the teams' adoption of Scrum, and through relentless collaboration with the individuals on the teams, I was able to help the teams regain self-organization by reviving the retrospectives (from a stagnated sprintly 3-question survey to a collaboration framework-based approach that included everybody), transforming the sprint kickoff/demos into sprint planning and reviews, and coaching the team to use daily scrums in a way that worked for the development teams. I also assisted the Product Owner to find ways to undo antipatterns in the backlog like lack of traceability and the effects of not establishing a clear Definition of Done. I shared techniques that allowed the team to clean our sprint cycle and discover, for the first time, team velocity by way of baselining a workable story point scale. My scrum team pursued tangible improvement initiatives for the first time by modernizing refinements (innovation games) to include the developers who would actually be performing the work. And, for the first time, we established critical metrics that were needed for the business to make key decisions about the product.We were successful in our mission to provide (for the first time in several years and after millions spent before us) transparency and the opportunity to forecast, which saved the client money and time.
