I spearheaded our coverage of education policies and trends, tracking thousands of bills through the Georgia General Assembly and deciphering relevant legislation for our diverse education audience.Before my promotion to that role, I led our coverage of schools in Cobb and DeKalb counties, two of Georgia's largest systems. I also collaborated with a small reporting team to chronicle the Atlanta schools test-cheating trial, a months-long RICO case that sent teachers to prison.I started here as a local government reporter, and wrote about Atlanta’s massive sewer overhaul as it grew from a $3.2 billion court-ordered project to something closer to $4 billion. One of my favorite stories was about a homeless alcoholic who went on to become a judge. (He was the father of Shirley Franklin, the mayor who fixed Atlanta's sewers.) It prompted 64 emotional emails from readers who had similar stories to tell.
