Graduate Course Content Contributor - It500 Information TechnologySouthern New Hampshire University Jun 2014 - Jul 2014Manchester, Nh, UsSNHU’s IT500 was having a redesign conducted by a third party. Having taught multiple sessions of the course, and having brought areas of improvement to the attention of Academic Management, the Assistant Dean of IT asked me to be a content contributor. Deliverable was an 18 page document that detailed items that could be improved upon, clarified for students, or modified to the constructivist point of view where student created knowledge occurs. Major areas included:- Discussion Threads - comments on where existing thread wording could be improved upon, sample new questions, and justification of the changes tied to learning theory. Many of the suggestions along with the overall approach I recommended for the discussion threads are now part of the modified course.- Journal Assignments - Suggested clarifications including a sample of a new instruction sheet tied to the rubric. The assignment morphed into another series, but the suggestions I offered carried through.- Network Diagram Assignment - Provided secondary “help” document that explained in detail what was expected, how to format it, how to find the information, what not to post and why (company supplied diagram where the student did not create it, violating company’s confidentiality policies), and a sample diagram. This is now standard in the modified IT500 course.- Memo Assignment - Clarification of what needs to be included, the level of detail, what to cite, and how to format, all tied to the rubric. This is now standard in the modified IT500 course.- General communication and formatting suggestions, in line with design and pedagogy changes suggested by others on the team. -
