After my previous position as a translation proofreader, I became one of the language leads for the Dutch version of ProtonMail and ProtonVPN. As a language lead, my primary responsibility is to ensure that the translations are accurate and of high quality.Linguistic diversity is a significant consideration when working on translations for Dutch-speaking audiences, as the language has different variations depending on the country or region. For example, there are differences between the Dutch spoken in The Netherlands and that spoken in Belgium. By working with a Belgian-Dutch colleague, we can incorporate these variations and ensure that the translations are accurate and relevant to a broader audience.Cultural awareness is also essential when working on translations. Belgium and the Netherlands have different cultural norms and nuances in their language use, which can affect how translations are received by their respective audiences. Collaborating with a Belgian-Dutch colleague brings a fresh perspective to the translations and helps ensure that they are culturally sensitive and appropriate for both audiences.Overall, working with a Belgian-Dutch colleague as a language lead for the Dutch version of ProtonMail and ProtonVPN allows us to bring both linguistic diversity and cultural awareness to our work. This collaboration results in high-quality translations that are relevant and accessible to a broader audience.

Following my previous role as a translator, I became a proofreader, which also carries additional responsibilities like approving incoming translations from team members, debating about (linguistic) style choices and streamlining the workflow.

ProtonMail is a secure e-mail service, based in Switzerland. Since March 24, 2017, I have been providing Dutch translations of Proton's apps (mainly ProtonMail and ProtonVPN).
