With a background in engineering & human computer interaction, I'm passionate about the intersection of technology and sustainability. At Clemson University, I co-founded the Student Sustainability Initiative to catalyze and fund student-led sustainability projects on campus. To date, it has raised over $15,000 exclusively for student projects - all from an optional fee on tuition. While at Evntr App LLC, I got first-hand experience working at an early stage startup trying to get off the ground. I picked up iOS development skills as I brought an app idea from rough prototype to the App Store and through multiple updates. At Georgia Tech, I learned the fundamental principles of user experience design and built my network. This network led to my first design job at Roadie. With Roadie, I've grown from one of the first interns on the design team to a Product Lead for the internal operations team since I first met the team in 2015.
Listed skills include Powerpoint, Microsoft Word, Research, System Testing, and 18 others.

Roadie is the first on-the-way delivery network that utilizes excess capacity in passenger vehicles, connecting people with stuff to send with drivers already heading that direction. Over the summer, I went through an intensive month long research project on how to build a competitive shipping estimator. That research laid the groundwork for me to design and build a working prototype that we tested with users. My project ultimately ended up going through a visual design overhaul and then pushed out live.
Evntr is an Atlanta-based startup building a mobile app for creating & finding local events. I joined as part of the founding team as the sole technical talent. During my time at Evntr, I brought the app from a rough prototype to the iOS App Store and through three updates. I used Parse for the backend and wrote the app in Objective-C in Xcode. I started in the Real Time Power & Intelligent Systems Lab (RTPIS) as a research assistant to Dr. Bitpul Luitel. With him, I developed a micro-grid visualization using HTML/CSS/Javascript. The following year I started my departmental honors research on PMU data visualizations under the direction of Dr. Kumar Venayagamoorthy. I worked with the openPDC platform and 12 PMUs from SEL. My last semester at Clemson, I completed a semester long group project in a graduate level smart grid class on designing a 100% clean micro-grid for Clemson that made use of the resources in the lab. I was responsible for creating a visualization to communicate our results. The research paper and visualization are presented in my Seelio portfolio - https://seelio.com/alexryan/public

Over the summer of 2014, I did research at Texas A&M though the Smart Energy & Smart Systems REU. My research was done under the direction of Dr. Le Xie and a visiting PhD student from Tsinghua University. The project - EnergyCoupon - implemented a platform to directly engage consumers in demand response. My contribution centered around the development of an Android app created to communicate with consumers. By the end of the summer. I brought the app from a rough prototype stage to a product that could be demoed. See https://seelio.com/alexryan for more details.

Assisted in the development of a mobile iOS application for viewing Sharepoint content from Office 365 on the go with another intern from Georgia Institute of Technology. Implemented a core data model for data persistence, designed & coded the introduction screens for the app, implemented tab bar navigation, fixed documented bugs, and developed numerous other features. I also gained experience using Git for source control.
During Spring of my sophomore year, I found Mountain Lakes church - a strategic partner with North Point Community Church. After spending a semester volunteering with the production team in lighting, I was offered the opportunity to become a Leadership Development Program intern. Through this internship, I participated in the behind-the-scenes work that it takes to run a startup church and served as an intern to the lead producer. I also attended leadership conferences and read through multiple leadership books with the lead producer & other interns.
