Ubaid Rahim is a Senior Blade Aerodynamics Engineer at Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy at Siemens Gamesa. This was clear to me from my first interaction with Ubaid 2 years ago when I joined GE. During our conversation, I noticed how closely he paid attention as I introduced myself and shared my background, hobbies, and interests. Although Ubaid had already been working at GE for a year by the time I had joined, he remained humble and enthusiastic when answering any question I had about the company. This left me with a very positive first impression of Ubaid and he soon became my go-to contact for advice or guidance as I went through the ramp-up period for my new role. Over the next 2 years, Ubaid served as a mentor for my professional growth. His passion for the renewable energy industry and commitment towards performing his best despite facing challenging obstacles along the way inspired me to press on when hitting roadblocks or experiencing setbacks along my own journey. If I was ever unsure of how to use a GE tool or locate information for a particularly topic, Ubaid would make himself available to answer my questions or point me in the right direction. One of the qualities that I find most impressive about Ubaid is his approach to handling uncertainty. Over the past few months, Ubaid was asked to transition from his role on the wind turbine acoustics team to a 6-month systems engineering bubble assignment due to a change in business priorities. During the transition period, I noticed that he maintained a positive attitude throughout and embraced the challenge without any hesitation. This shows that Ubaid does not only possess a strong work ethic, but is also highly adaptable during changing circumstances. Ubaid’s willingness to help and resourcefulness extends beyond the workplace. I’ve found this to be true from my own personal experience. From driving an hour away to assist me with a creative passion project to heading over to the airport parking garage on a moment’s notice to jumpstart my car’s dead battery, he always finds a way to help others which highlights his caring and thoughtful nature. All in all, I’m very fortunate to have met Ubaid early in my career and I’m proud to say that he is now one of my close friends. I am very excited to see how he continues to excel and contribute towards paving the path towards a greener and sustainable future.
