Undergraduate ResearcherAkhuwat Faisalabad Institute Of Research Science And Technology Mar 2021 - Aug 2022Faisalabad, Punjab, PakistanUndergraduate Researcher at Akhuwat Faisalabad Institute of Research Science and Technology (March 2021 - August 2022)Amid rising concerns over healthcare-associated infections, known as Nosocomial Infections, global studies have indicated a concerning increase in mortality rates of up to 40% in various countries, with Pakistan being significantly affected. Recognizing the urgent need for a current assessment, especially in the more vulnerable local and rural areas, I embarked on an in-depth research project titled, "Characterization and Antimicrobial Susceptibility of Nosocomial Pathogens from Local Hospitals of Faisalabad."Our study delved deep into analyzing 204 infectious agent samples, successfully characterizing 60 Nosocomial pathogen samples utilizing sophisticated microbiological techniques. The urgency and gravity of the situation became evident when, out of the 60 samples, a staggering 55 were identified as resistant to antibiotics, highlighting the pressing inadequacy of monotherapy against these infections.Our initial findings underscored a critical challenge in healthcare: the diminishing effectiveness of antibiotics against formidable Nosocomial pathogens. In response, our team is now focused on the PK/PD evaluation of antimicrobial combinations and venturing into the whole genome sequencing for select isolates. My dedication to this research endeavor is set to culminate in an imminent publication in a reputable scientific journal, further shedding light on this paramount issue and potentially steering healthcare practices towards more effective solutions.
