Characterized in detail the temporal evolution of aneurysms in mice and the role of oxidant stress.Translational/Clinical: Conducted a pilot study that employed flourodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) imaging co-registered with structural computerized tomography (CT) images for the in vivo localization and quantification of vascular inflammation in patients with AAA in order to determine whether increased inflammation within the walls of the aneurysm correlates with risk of adverse outcome. The successful pilot study led to a VA Merit Review Proposal Award for a 2 center study within the VA Health System. Epidemiology/population research: I served on the cardiovascular disease expert group for PAD and AAA in the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2010 Study. In my role, I led the systematic reviews, data extraction, and analysis of the work on PAD and aortic aneurysms which led to major publications in the Lancet and Global Heart Journal.
