Metal 3D printing is among the fastest-growing manufacturing technologies. In 2015, Materialise decided to establish a manufacturing plant in Bremen, a challenge I embraced. My primary responsibilities included developing the business case, acquiring the necessary machinery and personnel, identifying target markets, managing products, and training the Materialise sales team on how to position metal solutions to customers. We initially operated from the BITZ Bremen incubation center and began planning the manufacturing facility in 2017. Construction commenced in October 2019, and we relocated in March 2021.

Traditional dental casting technologies form the backbone of BEGO and are continuously advanced to maintain their competitiveness throughout the product lifecycle. BEGO's product range primarily includes cobalt-chrome and gold-based alloys, waxes, investments, casting equipment, blasting equipment, furnaces, and welding tools. As the head of the R&D department, we also spearheaded innovations that integrated CAD/CAM technology with casting, leading to the launch of the Varseo, the first DLP 3D printer specifically developed for dental applications. We safeguarded the intellectual property developed through patents.

Leading R&D collaborations with several companies and internal development to bring competitive CAD/CAM technology to the dental market. CAD/CAM process chain consists of optical 3D Scanners, dental CAD software, Production with biocompatible materials and state-of-the-art laser and milling technology: Selective Laser Melting, High Speed Cutting, CAD/Cast® and Rapid Prototyping.

Development and implementation of Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF), also known as Selective Laser Melting (SLM), for dental prostheses which today is a well-known manufacturing technology in the dental industry.
