Udam is a co-founder of the FOCUS specification, which stands for FinOps Open Cost and Usage Specification. This is a Linux Foundation Technical Project for which Udam has been elected as the chairperson since its inception. In 2023, FOCUS quickly became the leading specification used by cloud and SaaS providers for disseminating consumption-based cost and usage data. It has been identified by analysts and industry experts as the future lexicon of FinOps. It is free and open-source.FOCUS defines a standardized schema, terminology, and semantics for cost and usage data. It enables common FinOps tasks to be performed using a standardized, provider-agnostic set of steps. FOCUS was built in collaboration with all major players in the FinOps space. Udam built an industry-leading FinOps platform for one of the largest technology spenders in the world (12 billion USD annually), Citi. He bootstrapped the effort and led the product and engineering team for the platform.Cost data on the platform spanned multiple major cloud service providers, cloud-based SaaS/PaaS vendors, and internal costs. The FinOps data intelligence product allowed engineering, finance, and business stakeholders to make informed business decisions about their technology spending based on holistic, near real-time cost data and projections. Customers used the platform for cost management (reporting, alerting, chargeback, etc.), forecasting, and optimization.In addition, Udam defined multiple internal processes including how chargeback for cloud, SaaS, and other related internal OpEx and CapEx costs. Udam additionally managed multiple contracts and supplier relationships.

Lead four geographically distributed engineering teams across three different product lines.Cloudability Shift - Founding member and engineering leader of the new Apptio offering (announced Nov 2020 - http://tiny.cc/cloudability-shift-pr). The product provides multi-year planning and tracking capabilities (financial/capacity) for on-premise to cloud migrations. Bootstrapped two engineering teams to build the product from the ground up. Co-owner of the product definition, vision, strategy and roadmap.Apptio Cloudability - Lead engineering for Rightsizing/Optimization/Integrations for Apptio Cloudability - the leading Cloud Cost Management & Optimization product available today (acquired by Apptio in June 2019). Rightsizing/Optimization lowers cloud bills by utilizing machine learning to analyze complex cloud bills and utilization patterns to generate actionable recommendations.Apptio Cloud Business Management (CBM) - Maintain and service over 140 customers that are on the legacy cloud cost management product. Prior to deprecation, built features such as the free trial, multi-currency support, FedRAMP certification and architecture improvements to support large customers.

Founded and lead a team building shared platform services for the Apptio TBM Platform. Products built include Apptio's current Customer Identity and Access Management (IAM) solution, entitlement management and provisioning automation platform, and shared messaging platform (in-app & external channels).

Worked as the tech-lead building the Redshift control plane overseeing the frontend web service, the core workflow systems and health monitoring systems. Redshift was the fastest growing service in AWS history for 3+ years.
