In 2021, I was named by the Columbus CEO Magazine as one of its Future 50 Leaders. I made history, becoming the first person of color to be elected to Upper Arlington City Council in its 103-year history. When I immigrated to the United States from Nigeria at the age of 18 to attend college, I could not have imagined that my immigrant experience would be more than a journey of academic pursuits — it would become a profound exploration of identity, resilience, and purpose.In January of 2024, I proudly became the first person of color to be selected by my peers on Council to serve as President and Mayor for a two-year term.Today, I'm a partner at a national Law firm, an elected official, and a sought-after speaker on Immigrant Leadership Development.My work is informed by my unique perspective as a triple minority (black, female, immigrant), a mechanical engineer with an MBA and a lawyer. Having lived and worked in 8 cities across 3 countries, I offer a wealth of insights from my vast experiences working within Fortune 500 companies, national Law Firms, Universities, Local Governments, and specialized agencies of the United Nations (often hailed for my ability to connect quickly and my understanding of different cultures and societal dynamics.) The inspiration for my debut book ImmGRIT struck after I delivered a commencement speech at my alma mater in 2022.
