A dedicated interest in nature, particularly birds, which started to grow when I was very young, has given me a firm naturalistic base. The rest of my life since then has been filled with field work, studies and teaching in Ecology and Conservation Biology. This interest in nature and the experiences I have gained during my long-time commitment have given me a very good understanding of Ecological and Evolutionary processes as well as of Conservation Management. I took both my BSc and my PhD at Lund University, Sweden. The theme for my thesis was in the fields of evolutionary biology and behavioural ecology, especially parent-offspring conflict and the evolution of begging in birds. Since I finished my thesis, in 1997, I have been working as a freelance Ecologist, based in Luxemburg. Most of my projects have been in the domains of breeding biology in birds (Sweden), bird migration ecology (Canada, Nigeria and Senegal) and conservation biology (especially in Nigeria). The latter domain has been characterised by more applied projects. Apart from my scientific training at the University I have a lot of experience in running and maintaining projects (including funding) from work and on expeditions and projects to the arctic and to the tropics on four different continents, mostly concerning different aspects of Avian Ecology and Conservation Biology. I have always been convinced about the importance of environmental protection and conservation, and my experience of working in the field has only strengthened that conviction. I have been working in Nigeria since 1998, and since 2003 as a Senior Lecturer at the A.P. Leventis Ornithological Research Institute (APLORI), UNIJOS where I teach and train Nigerian students at MSc and PhD level in Conservation Biology. During my time in Nigeria I have been involved, and am still involved, in a number of conservation projects run by APLORI and others. Therefore I have had a large exposure to such projects in a developing country.
