Uma Komalan is a Safeguarding &PSHEA Specialist, Program quality , thought and practice leadership at Plan International Australia. Colleagues describe her as "If you are looking for someone who embodies Integrity then you have found them in Uma! I had the absolute pleasure and privilege of working with Uma for over four years during her time as Policy and Standards Co-ordinator at Oxfam Australia. Uma was a critical member of our Programs Department as well as a great colleague. She took on challenges big and small, complex and complicated but always with a true sense of purpose, of bringing to life our organisational values and to ensure that her work contributed to making the lives of those that Oxfam works with around the world safer, better and more equal. She is a staunch advocate for justice, social inclusion and ensuring everyone has a right to be heard. As a policy and program quality specialist, she translates good development policy into practical tools and resources that promote good practice in the agency’s day to day work. Over the years, Uma’s work supported quality program designs, monitoring, evaluation, and learning. She played a vital role in multiple internal and external quality assurance processes like DFAT accreditation. As the functional lead for policy and standards, Uma led the development of the agency’s multiple program policies and program cycle management systems and tools. She has led the agency's programmatic practice on Safeguarding and Disability Inclusion with strong passion. In recent years, Uma has also been a critical member of the Oxfam International Safeguarding network supporting global policy development and leading the confederation on the recently endorsed OI Global Safeguarding Core Standards. Uma was a fantastic member of the Oxfam team and she should be proud to know that she has literally played a part in positively impacting the lives of people around the world! "
