‘Investigating disease-associated protein variants in human retinal pigmented epithelium (RPE) cells – in vitro molecular modelling of age-related macular degeneration (AMD).’ (Funded by The Humane Research Trust)Key duties: 1) Leading and managing several projects in parallel (designing, executing and analysis of experimental work). 2) Developing in vitro AMD ‘disease in dish’ models using innovative CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing technology. Models currently being used for study of AMD progression. 3) Processing and preparation of RNA/DNA/protein samples. 4) Optimisation of cDNA and qPCR protocols. 5) Performing variety of mitochondrial functional assays - JC-1 stain and Seahorse XF MitoStress Assay6) Writing manuscripts for publications and grant funding applications.
