I've learned to use microcontrollers, code in C++ and Python, assemble circuits, draft patent disclosures, use shop tools, and construct effective presentations, just to name a fraction of what I've learned.

My primary role as Senior Peer Mentor was to act as a role model for the 11 Peer Mentors on my student staff team. I directly supervised and assessed their progress, and offered feedback on their resident interactions. I also implemented and marketed our academic intervention program, as well as provided training on how to effectively engage with residents. Furthermore, I held our Peer Mentors accountable for submitting all administrative paperwork in a timely manner.Beyond just being a role model for the Peer Mentors I supervised, I was also a leader for the entire 23 person student staff team. I organized and delivered training presentations, gave weekly staff meetings and updates, and delegated tasks as needed to ensure our dorm building ran smoothly, no matter the challenge.With the onset of COVID, my position was one among many that were altered to meet changing demands. While still serving as the leader for my student staff team, I pivoted to providing academic advising for ~200 residents across campus. I worked with residents to develop time management strategies, refine study habits, and build campus connections with faculty.

My time within LORE was spent learning and understanding the mechanics and motivations behind Pulsed-Laser Deposition: a method of synthesizing thin-film materials. These thin-film materials can have a multitude of practical applications, such as energy storage, low-resistance conductors, and surfaces with unique properties. I learned about maintaining an efficient lab, creating and documenting experiments, and how to organize my findings into easy-to-digest presentations.
