I have been incredibly lucky to enjoy a wide-ranging career experience in entrepreneurship and research. Worked on cutting edge research in signal processing and defense radar systems at the MIT Lincoln Labs. After that worked on several startups in different industries. At this time, extremely excited about iCare Software, the top management software we have built for the childcare and early education market. It has extremely rich functionality for all the stakeholders in the space – the owners, administrators, teachers, and parents. It helps them collaborate better to improve the business operation and enormously improve the child development outcome.I have an interesting story from one of my early encounters with management software. In 1982, when in grad school at Purdue, I singlehandedly built a complete management system for a plastics company. Wrote a menu-driven software that managed their entire operation - purchase orders, invoicing, production control, and inventory. I built it in 6 weeks of the summer break on a Radio Shack Model II computer, which had two 64KB floppy drives and no hard drive. The program ran their operation for 5 years.

It resolves the major managerial pain points for all the stakeholders in the space – namely, the owners, administrators, teachers, and parents.Childcare is an extremely regulated and labor-intensive business. There is a very thin line between profit and loss. It is a hard business to run. Even though childcare is very expensive, the worker salaries are low, which causes a high turnover and further worsens the problems of running a center. The other problems faced in center management are a difficult office that requires constant paperwork, no easy way of measuring children’s development outcomes, and disengaged parents. Our solution automates and tremendously reduces office work, it increases profitability, helps implement state recommended child development standards/guidelines for a more regulated classroom, and creates parent-teacher engagement. The iCare Virtual Classroom is a secure, operations integrated web conferencing tool that lets centers teach children at their homes and collect additional revenue from it. Show less -

We completely bootstrapped the company with no outside funding but simply good management of AR, AP, and a highly volatile inventory that rapidly dropped in value by the day. Show less -

Researcher In Defense Radar SystemsMit Lincoln Laboratory 1986 - 1987Greater BostonSolved a very interesting and critical problem in radar detection. Measurements from radars are run through mathematical correlation to detect objects such as enemy planes. The problem is that the correlation methods create ghosts; meaning, one plane appears as many in the correlation outcome. One weekend we took our toddler son to a theme park. Watching him on a spinning teacups ride while standing outside, I noticed that even though everyone was on the same platform, to an observer… Show more Solved a very interesting and critical problem in radar detection. Measurements from radars are run through mathematical correlation to detect objects such as enemy planes. The problem is that the correlation methods create ghosts; meaning, one plane appears as many in the correlation outcome. One weekend we took our toddler son to a theme park. Watching him on a spinning teacups ride while standing outside, I noticed that even though everyone was on the same platform, to an observer everyone appeared to be moving differently – some even appeared to be standstill for a moment or moving extremely fast. From this, I realized that the ghosts in the radar detection problem will be moving at abnormal speeds and so can be filtered out.Sometimes the best creative solutions to hard problems emerge when you step away.
