Universal Martial System (Ums)
Universal Martial System (U.M.S.) was founded and created by Professor Steven N. Levi in 1984. Based on physics, many of the traditional martial arts that were used by Professor Levi to train his students at the time were not based on practicality. He then enlisted two bio-physics majors to research the correct body movement to perform martial art techniques with efficiency, balance, power and effectiveness, and because of the research performed, a complete new system of self-defense had emerged. This new system was based on making every aggressive move effective, efficient, and realistic while minimizing risk for a counter attack or leaving the body vulnerable. Because these movements were based on scientific principles, Martial Arts mythology and folk lore was completely eliminated. U.M.S. is based on the science of bio-mechanics and physics to make movements of the human body able to perform self-defense techniques successfully in the most realistic situations known. U.M.S. is referred to as a complete martial arts system rather than a mixed martial art, combat martial art, traditional martial art style. U.M.S. is referred as a complete martial art style due to the fact that a U.M.S. practitioner will be able to use their knowledge in any situation. These situations include but are not limited to street oriented self-defense, combat defensive tactics, tournament sparring, weaponry, professional boxing, professional cage fighting, and so much more.A U.M.S. practitioner will be able to defend themselves in any one of these situations with the normal training which U.M.S. provides and will not have to outsource their training to specifically train for that form of defense. This makes Universal Martial System a complete martial art and one of a kind.
