Upender has rounded education holding multiple professional qualification ofbeing CA, ICWA, Company Secretary and Law Graduate.During working for 33 years with Indirect Taxes and Customs held various positions in policy,administration, enforcement and tax payers outreach programme thereof. Worked both in theCentral Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) and field formations and gained richknowledge of bouquet of Tax and Duty legislations administered by the CBIC.While working in the policy side drafted and led introduction of GST in the Country in July 2017and thereafter worked closely with the industry and other stakeholders to efficiently remedyteething troubles in legislation and implementation thereof. His efforts in leading introduction ofGST has been recognized in award of ‘Prime Minster’s Award for Excellence in PublicAdministration’ on the occasion of Civil Services Day, 2018, in addition to ‘Presidential Award ofAppreciation Certificate For Distinguished Record of Service’ on the occasion of Republic Day,2016.In addition, Upender got may awards from the professional bodies like ICAI; ICMAI; ICSI, etc.Upender is a member of all three professional bodies i.e. ICAI; ICMAI and ICSI for over threedecades and remained associated in various capacities like; Member of Accounting StandardsBoard of ICAI; GST Advisory Board of ICMAI; and ICSI GST Group. Additionally, he is co-opted member of GST and Indirect Tax Committee of ICAI.
