I am the co-founder, CEO and principal investor of MyEd and Emeritus Professor of Enterprise Development. With a distinguished career spanning over three decades, my achievements encompass strides in academia, enterprise, and community service.I am also part-time CEO of the Nishkam Civic Association (the Nishkam Centre) and former Chairman and Vice Chairman since 2002.The pinnacle of my academic journey culminated in a PhD in Marketing focusing on Indigenous and Asian Small Businesses in the West Midlands at the University of Aston in Birmingham. This research became foundational in understanding and supporting ethnic minority businesses. Ascending from a research role in 1978 to becoming Dean of Birmingham City University and Professor of Enterprise Development in 1996, I drove academic excellence and innovation. Later, as Director of Corporate Social Responsibility, I championed ethical, environmental protection and community focussed practices within academia. In 2010, I founded (with my sons) MyEducation Limited and in 2019, MyEd Limited (and MyEd.com), an EdTech enterprise offering cutting-edge Ai and data-driven services benefitting parents, students, and educational institutions in the UK. Advising the Ethiopian Government on establishing an international Business School at Addis Ababa University with significant EU funding channelled my expertise and commitment to global educational advancement. My contributions extended beyond academia, focusing on ethnic minority business research, influencing public policy, and leading multiple charities, amplifying community voices and fostering development. The appointment of OBE for services to Higher Education acknowledged my impactful contributions to academia and community, recognised in the Queen’s New Year Honours List in 2006. The following awards also demonstrate a proven record of significant achievement in my areas of work: Lloyds Bank Asian Jewel Award for outstanding contribution to HE and the business community in the region in May 2006 underscored my community-centric initiatives, reinforcing my commitment to societal betterment. Inclusions in the Asian Power 100 Asian Power (a list of Britain’s 100 most influential Asian men and women by the Institute of Asian Professionals) in 2005 and 2007 showcased my influence and contributions to Britain’s Asian community across different sectors. These and many other awards demonstrate my commitment to excellence, innovation, and community impact.
