Our research unit Material Design is within the RISE department Infrastructure and Concrete Technology. We deal mostly with research on cement based materials including concrete and mortars. We focussed on supplementary cementitious materials (SCM) and their use in concrete and mortars, their properties, hydration and the durability of concrete containing SCM. Furthermore, we perform research on the application of construction and demolition waste (CDW) in concrete. We lead or are involved in several national and transnational projects on ultra-high performance concrete, utilization of CDW materials, textile reinforced concrete and concrete or cement based materials containing nano-compounds.

Focus on concrete durability including ASR, sulphate attack and acid attack, surface protection for concrete (hydrophobation, anti graffiti), hydration of ultra high performance concrete (non-heat treated, heat treated, autoclaved); properties, application and standardisation of industrially produced earthen materials
