I worked on a Ph.D. degree within the “Web Portal Usability” (WPU) project at Aalborg University, in which I was conducting a case study in a small software company with the purpose of uncovering usability engineering gaps in the development process. Based on my findings, new resource saving methods were developed to support the partnering company (as well as other similar companies) in utilizing usability engineering methods. The methods were evaluated through use in a development project and the impact on the resulting systems was measured. The overall aim was to develop and evaluate resource saving usability engineering methods more suitable for use in small software companies.

As a User Experience (UX) consultant my work mainly evolved around designing user friendly and accessible interfaces for web portals and applications. To ensure the usefulness, usability, accessibility and a good overall user experience I worked in the following areas:- Identification of user needs and user profiles: Planning and conduction of user participatory workshops, field studies, interviews and surveys. All with the aim of identifying user needs and user profiles (personas).- User friendly designs:Creation of accessible user interface designs, which support user needs, targeted user profiles and preferred workflows.- Usability evaluations:Planning and conduction of usability tests and heuristic evaluations on various implemented systems and early paper prototypes.- User targeted communications:Planning and conduction of user education and writing of user manuals and context based help texts.- Accessibility (WCAG):Implementation of the WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) from W3C on websites.
