I was in employment with Grant Thornton Ltd, which is a sister company of Grant Thornton (Advisory) Services Ltd. I was involved in the audit of various clients in the financial, hospitality, manufacturing and distribution automobile and banking sector, including conglomerates registered in Mauritius, both listed and unlisted. • Plan and perform operational and financial audits to ensure that financial statements are fairly presented in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), requirements of the Mauritius Companies Act 2001 and Financial Reporting Act 2004;• Assess the design and effectiveness of internal control systems and test whether they are operating effectively;• Ensure procedures, policies, legislation and regulations are correctly followed and complied with;• Gauge levels of financial risk within organisations;• Perform substantive testing of account balances and class of transactions;• Prepare reports, commentaries and financial statements; and• Liaise with managerial staff and present findings and recommendations.

I was responsible to providing financial services to various corporations to ensure effective, efficient and accurate financial operations. Along with the preparation of financial statements, I had to ensure the compliance with established accounting policies and procedures. The client base included major companies registered in Mauritius, both on-shore and off-shore. Major tasks• Prepare and post final bookkeeping entries required for producing financial statements and management accounts;• Prepare and post accounts payables/receivables, loans and bank transactions for portfolio of clients; • Perform bank and any other reconciliations;• Prepare clients’ VAT returns and other basic Income Tax Returns;• Prepare and submit various returns through MNS;• Maintain fixed assets register;• Prepare and monitor budgets;• Prepare annual financial statements and monthly management accounts from the accounting records of the clients’ entities in accordance with appropriate accounting standards and policies; and• Prepare correspondence to liaise with banks and local authorities on behalf of clients.
