This encompasses both direct programme work with government and civil society partners as well as linkages and support to teams working on education, health, child protection, water and sanitation, and HIV.

Tanzania

UNICEF Tanzania has an annual budget of $ 40 million, 100 staff and three offices across the country. Managing a team of four and an annual budget of $ 1.3 million, responsible for UNICEF’s leadership in social protection within UN’s ‘Delivering as One’ and enhanced national investments in children. Spearheading integration of equity, social protection and child rights within national and sub-national planning and budgeting processes. Achievements: Led the national policy process of successful adoption of a key and historic policy document "Arusha Declaration on Social Protection in Tanzania' (http://www.unicef.org/esaro/5440_tz2014_intl-conference-ends.html); re-configuration and strengthening of the national dialogue architecture, strengthening UNICEF’s sub-national programming and budgeting work through child sensitive district capacity development; leveraging Performance Assessment Framework of EU’s $ 240 million General Budget Support; effective leadership of the Social Protection Donors Group influencing substantive ODA from DFID and SIDA for Tanzania’s child benefits/ Cash Transfer Programme; successful advocacy with the Government to include additional allocation of cash incentives for adolescents.

Bangladesh

Worked closely with the Government of Bangladesh and other leading development partners including DFID, World Bank, UNICEF and WHO and contributed to reform of national food security and poverty reduction programmes and enhance disaster risk reduction;coordinated the design of the WFP Cyclone Sidr Response 2007 and ensured timely assistance to 2 million people;dsigned and negotiated a comprehensive capacity building project with the national Ministry of Food and Disaster Management on strengthening food security measures and disaster management/response;;improved the targeting efficiency of the VGD (the largest food security and development programme of WFP) reaching 4 million extreme poor;led WFP Bangladesh’s participation in the national Poverty Reduction Strategy process, MDG Performance Assessment and UNDAF (United Nation’s Development Assistance Framework); coordinated the design and resource mobilization/donor consultation of WFP Country Programme (2007-2010);set up a Food Security Journalists Network with representatives drawn from over 25 media houses leading to a 10% increase in the coverage of hunger and malnutrition
