About Ute Galm

As a biotech leader with over 15 years of experience in strain development, synthetic biology, and natural product discovery, I have successfully managed cross-functional teams and projects in the biotech and agricultural industry. I have a proven track record of delivering innovative solutions for microbial production systems, creating chemical diversity of complex product scaffolds, and contributing to the development of regulatory strategies for novel bioproducts. Most recently, as the Vice President of Strain Development at Curie Co, I oversaw the strain development, cell banking, bioanalytical, automation, and bioinformatics functions, and contributed to the regulatory strategies of the company. I also represented the company at the Enzyme Technical Association Board, and facilitated external collaborations for strain development, enzyme purification, and characterization. Prior to that, I held various leadership roles at Zymergen, where I developed enzyme panels, demonstrated the utility of the natural product discovery platform, and scoped new projects across different industry sectors. My mission is to leverage cutting-edge technologies and scientific insights to create sustainable solutions for human health, global nutrition, and other societal challenges. I am an empathetic and creative leader who fosters innovation, communication, and enthusiasm in cross-disciplinary teams. My leadership style involves guiding and coaching team members to stay on track of the overall company goals while applying the most suitable techniques to overcome challenges.
